At the renowned Art Students League in New York, he honed his skills, immersing himself in the rich tapestry of artistic techniques. The Influence of Masters

W.J. Turner and De Stael, celebrated artists of their time, left an indelible mark on Brian’s artistic sensibilities. Their bold approaches to landscapes and seascapes resonated deeply with him, shaping his own artistic vision. Brian’s exploration of graphic artistry at the Pratt Graphics Centre in New York further fueled his passion, propelling him to become a trailblazing printmaker in Queensland.

Brian’s Remarkable Journey

  • 1958: Brian embarked on an artistic pilgrimage, touring the Art Centres of Europe.
  • 1966: Studied at the Art Students League in New York alongside Theodore Stamos; also explored printmaking at the Pratt Graphics Centre.
  • 1967: First solo exhibition at the Kennigo Gallery in Brisbane.
  • 1971: His work joined the Sam Pees Collection and toured the U.S.A.
  • 1973: Began tutoring in drawing and printmaking at the College of Art, Brisbane.
  • 1975: Awarded a Visual Arts Board grant.
  • 1978: Founded the Printmakers Gallery in Indooroopilly, Brisbane.
  • 1983: Contributed a member print to the Print Council of Australia.
  • 1984: Featured in the Contemporary Australian Printmakers exhibition, touring North America.
  • 1989: Solo exhibition at Bridge Street Gallery in Sydney.
  • 1996: Recognised in “A Time Remembered – Art in Brisbane, 1950 to 1975.”
  • 2005: Undertook a major tour of galleries in New York and Europe.
  • 2007: Received a Regional Arts Development Fund grant for a Redlands-focused print series.
  • 2009: Redlands and Islands exhibition at Redlands Regional Art Gallery.
  • 2010: National Gallery of Australia acquired 12 of Brian’s prints.
